Agenda: Addressing Administrative Criminalization, Arbitrary Detention, and Geopolitical Instrumentalization of Refugees and Asylum Seekers. The international protection framework is severely strained as states increasingly treat asylum seekers as security threats or political leverage. Across transit hubs and borders, refugees face arbitrary detention, language barriers, and legal obstacles that result in wrongful criminalization. Beyond administrative cruelty, states weaponize migrant flows to extract political or financial concessions, leaving millions trapped in legal uncertainty without due process. The objective of this committee is to establish international standards that eliminate arbitrary detention and prevent the political weaponization of asylum seekers.
